Physics today was electrifying. :D We had a demo using a Vandegraaff Generator! And I got to go down and do a "demonstration" for the entire class, since I have nice long hair. Now, my hair didn't look quite as good as the picture that I linked, but you get the idea. Here's another page on electric stunts that look pretty awesome. I've been doing Physics problems on Tycho for much too long though...I should go do math instead.

I have to make this quick and short since I have a lot of other more important things to do but :) it'd be more real if I blogged today and said what happened today instead of tomorrow saying what happened yesterday. Anyway, so I volunteered for 4 hours straight, helping put 29 big blue 'containers' in an organized pile and doing it every oh, 6 minutes or so. Believe me, I got pretty tired near the end. But anyway, the incredibly embarrassing thing that happened was that in the middle of one of these entropy fighting bouts, I lose my balance going up the ramp and fall on my butt and slide/tumble half-way down the ramp. The bad news is that there is this HUGE (I'm talking bigger than my room) sized screen that was showing everything that was happening on the area that the robots were competiting and where we were stacking the containers. So whoever was in the stands and was watching could very clearly see me biting it. The good news was that it wasn't taped, meaning, there are no chances of any of that being shown on TV any time soon. The only thing I have to keep in mind is that when it is televised, on Friday and Saturday, that I get my act together and don't fall like that again. It'll probably be on a commerical break or something, I'm sure no one wants to watch us stack the containers over and over. So that was interesting. Then the minute I come back, Diane's like, we're all going out for Thai! And I'm like cool! And we come back to the 3rd Floor Lounge to eat and it was all good...until, someone noticed that on the other tower of Haggett, there were some people. And we end up having like 15 people in the lounge doing crazy things like the Can-Can and the Macarana and other weird dances, competing with the complete strangers in the other tower. Sadly to say, I got sucked into this crazy activity and participated in a number of antics, a few being standing on top of the bench that runs all the way across the large window, bending over and giving the other tower a vigorous booty shake, and being the top of a human pyramid and giving them a nice wave. After I left, Diane and Nick came back and Nick told me that about ten of them took the elevator down, went to the other tower, and did a Congo line through their floor lounge. Yes, my floor is crazy and nerdy and it's awesome. :D!

I'm going to be in the First Robotics Competition. Not as a participant, but a volunteer. Maybe I'll even show up on TV again. I don't think it'll be live this time so I might be able to find out what channel and when they're going to show it. Maybe. Or it looks like it might be webcast as well. Anyway, I get to do the field reset, so that means after every match, I run out with a bunch of others and restack the containers (we're not allowed to call them tupperware). It should be interesting, I get to volunteer on Thursday afternoon and again on Saturday morning. Hey, at least I got a free dinner tonight at the 'training' and a free T-shirt and nametag. I'm actually slightly intimidated to be doing this. Have no idea what kind of insane nerdy thing I'm getting myself into. Okay, maybe a little, it looks pretty nerdy by the mottos of a couple of the high school teams that are signed up.
A few of my favorites:
Let's Kick Brain
We Really Bite
Bigger, Stronger, Faster, Smarter
Oh yeah? OH YEAH!!!
Duct tape is the answer
Engineering: It's HARDCORE!
If it ain't smokin', it ain't broken
Don't Touch That
got math?
You Torquin' to Me
Mess with the best, die like the rest
You're 10 seconds away from the most embarrassing moment of your life!
2 Groups: Hakuna Matata
Let the 4s be with you
It ain't pretty, but it runs.
"Let's All Go Nuts!! Robots!! Robots!!"
The torque is strong with this one!
"You can't spank THIS monkey"
I can't believe it's not broken
Just Torque!
Work Hard, Think Fast, Bring Duct Tape
Torque It Up!
"We put the cool in uncool"
Oooo, What does this button do?
what?
Don't leave OHM without it!!!
And of course, the 2 dozen or so latin/spanish mottos

Funny Story of the Week

Last night, as usual, I go and take a shower. I'm in the shower, about to put shampoo in my hair when I hear a knock on the bathroom door, I think, eh, they'll probably give up after a while. The person continues to knock every other minute and I try to ignore it since I'm trying to enjoy my nice shower. Finally, I think, okay fine, if that person knocks again, I'll get out and open the door for them, all the while thinking, jez, why don't they just knock on someone's door and have them use their keys and open the bathroom door? But noooo, they gotta call the one person in the bathroom who's naked. I managed to just put conditioner in my hair when the person knocks again, so, true to my word, I get out, wrap a towel around me and go and open the door. Lo and behold guess who is at the door? Yup, it's my good ol' roommate, Diane. I immediately get irritated and start shouting, "What?! I hate you!" If it had been anyone else I would have grinned and been like, so you really needed to go huh? But luckily for me, it happens to be the only person that I can yell at and not feel bad about. She stands there for a moment grinning sheepishly at me yelling at her and manages to tell me that she locked herself out of the room. I was irritated (but amused). I continue to yell at her though because 1) She made me get out of my nice hot (read: relaxing) shower to open the door. 2) I was getting my towel prematurely wet and finally, 3) She proceeds to steal my keys, which she does all of the time because she constantly misplaces hers. Which wasn't too bad this time because she at least returned them to me this time, usually, she just takes them and then I'm like, "Hmmm, can't seem to find my keys anywhere....Diane, check in your pocket for me? Yup, there they are."

In other news, I played with static electricity for about three and a half hours today.

Finally, the night before the first day of classes and I am about 20% unpacked. BUT, I have my schedule done!
Spring Quarter Schedule 2003

And yay :) Dan's such a sweetheart, he bought that totally cute purse that I mentioned in the previous blog. When I get the time I'll put up a picture of the purse! Now, back to unpacking!
